World Photography Day is observed annually on August 19 to appreciate the art, craft, science, and history of photography. The day is also celebrated to honour photographers who have the talent of capturing moments and producing amazing pictures. History of the day

The observation of World Photography Day honours the invention of the Daguerrotype, a process that was formulated by the French artist and photographer, Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce. in 1837. His idea was effectively inked by the French Academy of Sciences, which subsequently gifted the process to the world on August 19, 1839. However, the celebration of World Photography Day began in 1991 with the efforts of an Indian photographer, OP Sharma, who managed to bring the renowned photographers across the globe on a single platform.
